Finding a home in the Lake
Pepin area of Western Wisconsin is different than looking for a home
in a big city. The small communities of Pepin, Stockholm, Alma and
Maiden Rock each have a unique character and their own history.

We have two suggestions:
1. The first is to take your time and
make your home search enjoyable.
Most people make several visits to the Lake Pepin Wisconsin area
before they buy a home. Some have made this their vacation
destination for many years before they decide to buy a home in the
area. Search for a home in the community where you feel most
comfortable. Talk with local residents to learn about the community
and how people feel about it.
The Wisconsin Mississippi River Valley corridor is unique. The Great
River Road (highway 35), spans the entire length of Lake Pepin. You
won't find any of the typical "chain" stores or shopping malls that
carpet the big cities. There aren't any "tourist trap" attractions.
Each shop is owned by someone who lives in the community and they'll
be happy to tell you about the area. We encourage you to enjoy the
charm, tranquility and fabulous scenery the area has to offer.

lodging resources in Alma, Maiden Rock, Stockholm, and Pepin
2. Our second suggestion is to find a local independent real estate
agent to help you search.
Like any area, there are good and bad realtors in the Lake Pepin
region. Don't be shy about asking local residents about a particular
realtor and listen to
what their
past clients say about their home buying experience. Choose a realtor who knows the
people and the area. Work with an independent realtor from the town
or village you're interested in. The national real estate agencies
are fine for big cities but they don't understand the character of
the communities in the Lake Pepin area. Some of the national real
estate agencies in this area have a reputation for high pressure
sales. Be cautious and use your best
judgment when choosing a real estate agent to work with.
Your time is valuable. A good real estate agent will do the leg-work
for you. If a real estate agent starts showing you homes or land
that don't fit your criteria, then find a new realtor.
That's it. Relax and enjoy the process and use a local independent
realtor who knows the community you're interested in.
